Corporate Opioid Prevention Initiative was inspired by a conversation from Deputy Chief Anzueto Investigative Services Bureau Orlando Police Department “The more corporations that care about their employees and provide education and resources, the more we can impact the opioid epidemic.”

The COPI program allows employers to give the gift of education to their employees while creating a healthier organization for all the stakeholders. In the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2014), SAMHSA found 8.6% U.S. employees have a substance abuse problem. The survey tallied days missed, healthcare costs, and turnover. They found workers with pain medication use disorders miss three times the amount of work as their co-workers, 29 days versus 10.5 days per year. Workers in recovery, however, miss fewer days than the average co-worker, at 9.5 days per year. Employees in recovery also have lower turnover rates.

Allow us to share the basic understanding of the current epidemic, definitions and understanding of prescription and non-prescription medications, alternatives for pain, symptoms of abuse, employee responsibilities and more.
